Unit 2 : Getting involved in the Digital Age

Step two: how the # (hashtag) was invented

We’ve watched the video about Chris Messina (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJCj_TwRiDQ&feature=youtu.be ) and we’ve taken notes about the origin of the hashtag.

Our objective today: revise (or learn) the meaning and the use of (some) linking words so as to help you express more complex ideas.

What linking words can you use instead of (au lieu de) « because », « so », « but » and « and » ?

Here’s a list of linking words to learn :

CAUSE  CONSEQUENCE

 CONTRAST

OPPOSITION

 CONCESSION ADDITION

because : parce que

 so : donc

but : mais

and : et

as : comme

due to /ˈdjuː/ + NG: en raison de

because of + NG: à cause de

thanks to + NG: grâce à

as a result  / as a consequence / therefore : par conséquent
